Family home in Harpenden, Hertfordshire

Organised and individual with swathes of colour and pattern

Interior design project in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Rooms designed: kitchen, utility extension, hall, downstairs toilet and master bedroom.

The project started with one of our Helping Hands design consultations, where we helped solve a dilemma on whether they renovate their old kitchen or extend. We were later hired to design the rooms being renovated.

The kitchen's footprint was retained, but a wall was knocked out to create a feeling of space. We collaborated with our clients and a bespoke joinery company to develop the kitchen and utility cabinets along with a large bookshelf and fitted wardrobe complete with a floating dressing table in the master bedroom.

A new lighting plan makes the island the focal point of the kitchen and defines the dining and library area.

We had fun exploring colours and wallpapers with our client, who were delighted with the stunning Ottoline wallpaper and panelling in the downstairs toilet and the iconic Christopher Farr Carnival curtain fabric in the main bedroom.

Client review

"Engaging Alison to help us through a substantial remodel and renovation of our family home was the best decision we ever made!  Over the course of 16 months she transformed our home into a practical and beautiful space, and we are thrilled with the results!

Thanks to her expertise we avoided making costly mistakes and future-proofed our home by making good design decisions that will stand the test of time.

Alison created beautiful and imaginative interior schemes for everywhere from the bijou downstairs cloakroom to our large open plan kitchen-dining room and master bedroom.  Alison was meticulous in her attention to detail and brilliant at sourcing everything we needed for the project.

On a personal level, Alison was lovely to work with:  extremely personable, professional, and very focused on delivering an amazing result.  Indeed, she really went above and beyond to help us create a lovely home, and we cannot recommend her services highly enough."
